A trial is being carried out at St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey involving a checkpoint system at the main entrance.

People entering now have to follow a procedure involving hand sanitiser, wearing a new surgical mask which will be provided and having their temperature checked by a thermal camera.

The camera will also check if the user is wearing a mask.

It will display a green light indicating the user can enter, or a red light which means the user is not wearing a mask, or has a temperature.

If, after putting on a mask, the red light still flashes, it means the user has a temperature and needs to go home and self isolate, along with their household, and book a covid test.

Staff entering the site will also have their own checkpoint to pass through with the same requirements.

An exit route will also be in place to allow for a socially distanced flow of patients and staff.

In the coming weeks, the system will also be introduced at the main entrance of Ashford Hospital.

If the trial proves successful, the new system will be rolled out to other entrances across Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
