Dementia patients and their friends are being invited to walking football sessions at the Taro Centre, Petersfield.

The sessions are taking place on May 16 at 11am and will be supported by volunteers and coaches with specialist training and dementia-friendly equipment.

Dementia-friendly walking football is being provided in partnership with Everyone Active, Right at Home Havant & Petersfield, Dementia Friendly Petersfield and East Hampshire District Council (EHDC).

Councillor Julie Butler, EHDC portfolio holder for welfare housing and community, said: ‘As part of our work to support people living with dementia in East Hampshire, we’ve worked with enthusiastic partners in the community to set this up.

‘It is our hope that we can establish regular sessions to help people with dementia and their friends to get active and rekindle a love for playing the beautiful game.’

Duncan Cameron, director of Right at Home care, added: ‘As soon as I met Jeff Williams from Dementia Friendly Petersfield, I knew that it was exactly the sort of project that Right at Home care would be able to help with since we had done similar community health initiatives before and definitely wanted to be involved with this one.

‘We can’t wait for the taster session on 14 May and look forward to rolling it out on a regular basis.’
