A drunk driver from Frimley who was found slumped over his steering wheel in Camberley has been sentenced.

34 year old Craig Deeprose of White Wood Vale was arrested in the early hours of 7 December after officers saw him in his car with the engine running, on Old Bisley Road.

Officers asked him what he was doing and he told them he was going to drive home and went through the motions to drive off.

His car was also littered with opened and unopened cans of alcohol.

Deeprose was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs and taken into custody.

A breathalyser was inconclusive but after a blood test he was charged with driving with 207mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood – the legal limit being 80mg.

Deeprose pleaded guilty when he appeared at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on 13 March. He was disqualified from driving for 36 months, ordered to pay £85 in costs and £95 in victim surcharge.

He was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work

Deeprose was among 186 motorists arrested during Surrey Police’s festive crackdown on drink and drug-drivers, which ran from 1 December to 1 January.

Of these 18 have been convicted, the rest have either been charged, released under investigation or released without charge.

Surrey Police say those convicted are being named as a deterrent.
