Guildford's G Live closes as vaccination centre and prepares to host live performances again
The entertainment venue has been acting as a vaccination centre for the past 7 months
Guildford's G Live will no longer offer booked or walk-in vaccinations after today (Friday 23 July).
It's preparing to host live performances again for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.
It has been acting as a vaccination centre for the past 7 months.
An interim vaccination site is being set up at George Abbot school, on Woodruff Avenue in Burpham, where the NHS will continue to vaccinate people throughout August.
They are expected to open later next week.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Joss Bigmore, says:
“We are so proud that we have been able to play our part in the biggest vaccination programme in this country’s history. For the first time since March 2020, restrictions have been lifted but the message is still very much to be cautious and responsible as Coronavirus (Covid-19) is still in our communities.
“Our G Live building has been at the heart of our community by giving ProCare a place to vaccinate thousands of our borough’s residents. We are, though, really pleased that G Live will be able to open its doors for performances again. We know how much people have missed going their."
Lead Councillor for Community and Housing, Cllr Julia McShane, says:
“Thank you to everyone for playing their part and looking after their neighbours and the vulnerable. We have rediscovered our appreciation for the NHS and all of the volunteers who have done a magnificent job vaccinating our residents. The vaccination is the best way to protect yourself, your friends and family, and those who are vulnerable.
Director of G Live, Derek Aldridge says:
“I am extremely proud that G Live was able to become a vaccination centre for the past seven months. The achievements of the NHS in Surrey have been nothing short of remarkable and the commitment of the staff and volunteers has been astonishing.
“Thanks to the success of the vaccination programme G Live is now able to look forward to welcoming audiences safely back for the very best of live entertainment, starting with comedian Sarah Millican in August.”
Dr Phil Ridsdill-Smith, Chief Executive of Procare Health and Procare Community Services says:
“The local vaccination service at G Live has played a prime role in the successful vaccination programme across Guildford and Waverley.
"We are very grateful for the use of G Live as well as all the support that the staff from G Live have provided over the past eight months, and we hope that they can return to normal business as soon as possible.”
