Homes near Godalming are without water for the second time in two months following a burst water main.

Thames Water say postcodes in the GU4 and GU5 areas are affected, with 208 households experiencing low or no water pressure.

They said engineers had been sent to the area to fix the issue, and that tankers had been sent to the area to help keep people plugged into the water supply.

Thames Water also confirmed there would be bottled water deliveries, and apologised to residents for the inconvenience the issues were causing.

It follows thousands of households in Guildford and Godalming losing water for several days last month due to issues at the Shalford Treatment Works in the aftermath of Storm Ciaran.

A Thames Water spokesperson said:

“We’re sorry to customers in the Hornhatch, Chilworth area who are experiencing low pressure or no water today due to a burst water main. We know how disruptive and inconvenient this can be, especially on a festive holiday.

"Our engineers are on site and have stopped the flow of water which will reduce the number of properties affected.

"We will be carrying out a repair as quickly as possible and in the meantime we will be using tankers to help keep customers in supply.”

The area's MP, Jeremy Hunt, wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he was "beside himself with frustration that this is happening again over Christmas."

Mr Hunt added he was in contact with Thames Water about setting up water stations for those affected, and ensuring the most vulnerable are supported.
