More coronavirus deaths have been recorded at hospital trusts in Sussex, as the number of cases in West Sussex reached more than 7,000 on Wednesday (November 11th).

Another patient being cared for at the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust died on Monday after testing positive for the virus, according to NHS England figures.

A total of 132 people have now passed away after being diagnosed with Covid-19 at the trust, which runs St Richard's Hospital in Chichester, Worthing Hospital and Southlands Hospital in Shoreham.

Four fatalities have now been recorded at the trust in the ten days since October 31st.

In addition, the figures released on Wednesday showed a further seven deaths have been recorded at the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath and Brighton's Royal Sussex County Hospital.

That brings the total number of deaths recorded there to 172.

The victims were among 3,882 deaths recorded across the South East.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."

In total, 453 people in West Sussex have died within 28 days of contracting the virus in all settings, including care homes, private homes and in hospices.

Mid Sussex has seen the most with 112 deaths, followed by Horsham with 91, Crawley, with 74, Worthing with 60, Arun and Chichester both with 44, and Adur with 28.
