On what would've been the Brighton Rainbow Fund's biggest fundraising weekend with Brighton Pride, calls are being made to keep donating to the charity despite the festival being cancelled.

The charity raises money year round for various LGBTQ+ charities and HIV projects in the city, and in pre-covid years would take around £180,000 over the course of Pride weekend.

It's asking everyone to donate £5 to help plug funding gaps caused by Pride being cancelled two years in a row because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Dr Christopher Gull, Chair of the Brighton Rainbow Fund, said: "Last year when Pride got cancelled and there was a much tighter lockdown, we had to forgo our usual grants round where we would look at applications for grants. So those organisations didn't get any of that funding from us last year, and this year we're hoping to have a reduced grants round. We think we'll have money to distribute this year...those organisations, because of covid, their service users are in even more need of this funding".

Donations can be made on the Brighton Rainbow Fund website.
