Hundreds of homes in East Sussex still have no water following problems at the nearby water treatment works.

About 700 properties have been affected by the outages which began on Wednesday (28 February).

South East Water have apologised again this morning after Alfriston and surrounding areas remain without water or have low pressure.

The utility say it comes following problems at the nearby water treatment works due to heavy rain and flooding.

They did confirm supplies have been restored to the majority of customers Berwick, Ripe and Wilmington.

South East Water are using tankers to inject water into the Alfriston area so some customers may receive intermittent supplies.

Bottled water stations will be open until 9pm this evening at:

  • The Singing Kettle, 6 Waterloo Square, Alfriston, Polegate BN26 5UD
  • Arlington Reservoir Car Park, Station Road, Berwick, BN26 6TF

South East Water provided an update this morning, it said:

"We have rerouted water around our network to bring supply back to some areas affected by the ongoing issues at our treatment works site.

"We are sorry to customers who remain without water or who have an intermittent supply and low pressure.

"The heavy rainfall and flooding caused the water in our aquifers to become more turbulent, stirring up the chalk deposits which naturally occur.

"This has reduced the quality of the water coming into the treatment works, making it harder to turn into fresh drinking water.

"Specialist filters at the site would normally last approximately six weeks, but we have so far used three sets in three days as we try to clean the water coming into the treatment works."
