Eight fire crews sent to tackle restaurant blaze in Brighton

They were called to Dos Somberos in Ship Street shortly after 5.15am this morning (14 February)

Eight crews from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to a restaurant fire in Brighton this morning.

The alarm was first raised at 5.16am on Ship Street to reports of a fire at Dos Somberos.

Smoke was affecting the flats above.

At the height of the incident, eight fire engines were on the scene. It's now been scaled back to just two appliances as of 7.10am.

Crews from Roedean, Preston Circus, Hove, Barcombe, Newhaven and Worthing used hose reels, firefighting foam and breathing apparatus.

Everyone who was in the building has been accounted for.

Members of the public were asked to avoid the area near the junction with Prince Albert Street while they worked.

Police and ambulance were also alerted, as were the utility companies.

A spokesperson from the fire service said: "We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we work to bring the incident to a close.

As of 9.05am, all crews had left the scene.

They added: "A fire investigation will take place in due course.

"Thank you to everyone affected for their patience whilst we dealt with this incident."
