Five West Sussex neighbours have celebrated a big win to start the week - scooping £30,000 each on the People's Postcode Lottery.

It was an exciting start to the week for five Haywards Heath neighbours after they won £30,000 each thanks to their postcode.

The group from Haywards Heath, won with their postcode RH16 3LY, in the draw held on Monday (September 2nd).

Health and Safety worker, Sam McCloskey, was one of the winners picking up a cheque. He found out how much he’d won over a video call with People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson.

Sam was at work when he got the video call and joked: “I’ll need to wait until just before 5 o’clock to tell everyone or I’ll have to buy a lot of beers!”

The win has come at a great time for Sam and his fiancé of two years, Kirsty, who unfortunately had to postpone their wedding due to Covid restrictions.

Sam said: “Our wedding was meant to be in July this year but has been postponed until next year now, fingers crossed! It’s all planned but there are still some things we need to sort out so the money will be very beneficial for that.

“It will also help go towards a honeymoon when we can go. I’ve always wanted to go to St Lucia, but she wants to do South America. We will have to see who wins that argument, probably her!

“We’ve been together for 13 years, so it’s been awful timing with everything happening, but I’m just over the moon with this. It will really help us out.”

When asked how Kirsty would react to the news, Sam said: ““This will blow her socks off! We’ll have a bottle of bubbly when we get home, I’m sure. It’s a bit surreal.”

With 32% of ticket sales going directly to good causes, players of People’s Postcode Lottery have helped raise over £600 million for good causes across Britain and internationally since 2005.

Sam commented: “Everybody needs a helping right now with everything going on so it’s great knowing the money goes to good causes too.

“We actually recently got a new dog from a charity. He’s full of energy but needs surgery, so the winnings will help with that.”

The other four winners decided to remain anonymous but will still receive their prize money.

People’s Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day. People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador, Danyl Johnson, said: “It was lovely to virtually meet Sam and be the bearer of such good news. I hope him and Kirsty have the wedding of their dreams next year, and hopefully the win means they can add some extra special touches.

“A big congratulations to the other winners too!”
