A stainless-steel sculpture created to say thank you to key workers is being unveiled in Chichester on Wednesday (March 24th).

The monument, created by Singleton-based fabricator John Gillespie, will be sat in East Street, one year and one day after the announcement of the first coronavirus lockdown in the UK.

Called 'Unity', it depicts a nurse, made from over 300 stainless steel keys and other objects, sitting on a bench with a two-metre wide gap to enable social distancing.

Around 250 of the keys are engraved with the names of professions classed as key workers, many of them suggested by members of the public.

They range from medical staff, NHS workers and care home nurses to shop staff, cleaners and bus drivers.

The full sculpture is being put in place outside Barclays Bank.

More details about the project can be found on its Facebook page.
