Events are being held across Brighton today as part of a 'Day of Compassion' to honour the lives lost in the city during the Covid pandemic.

From 11am to 2pm, Brighton Dome's Foyer will open to be used as a place for reflection and stalls for visitors run by local charities will also feature.

Then from 4pm to 5.50pm, a 'Service of Compassion' is being led by the Mayor of Brighton and Hove.

It'll feature music, short films and readings from people who have experienced being on the front lines during the pandemic.

Mayor Alan Robins said: "We want to try and make it fairly uplifting, not really a terribly sad thing, but just to recognise and come together with people who have lost family and friends during the pandemic.

"If there's anything good that can come out of the pandemic, perhaps it's that there is a sense of community. There's a sense that people really did their best to help. It was something that affected everybody, there's nobody that escaped it."

Anyone who can't attend the services in person can watch via a webcast this afternoon.
