As non-essential shops across Chichester reopen, residents are encouraging people to 'Shop Local, Spend Local, Support Local' to help local businesses back onto their feet following lockdown.

Businesses across the district are ready to welcome customers as the next stage of the Government's roadmap eases for non-essential retail today.

Chichester District Council have been working closely with district businesses to ensure that they are Covid secure.

From one-way systems to ensuring the correct signage and hygiene measures are available, our businesses really want customers to feel as safe as possible, and the District Council keen to reassure people that they can feel confident about returning to the district's High Streets.

'FARMERS MARKETS RETURN'

Chichester's Wednesday market and Farmers' Market are set for a safe return to the High Street this month.

In line with the Government's plan to carefully ease restrictions, the Wednesday markets will resume in the city centre from 14th April and the Farmers' Markets will return to East Street every first and third Friday of the month from 16th April.

The Saturday market in Chichester will remain in its permanent location of the Cattle Market car park. Both the Wednesday and Saturday markets are run by Bray Associates, and you can find out more about the Farmers' Markets on our Farmers' Market webpage.

SHOP SAFELY

Chichester District Council have issued the following safety guidelines:

  • Follow instructional and directional signage in the High Streets.
  • Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds before you go out and when you get home, and use hand sanitiser when you are out and about.
  • Always follow the Government's guidance on staying safe outside your home and maintain a safe distance from others.
  • Wear a face covering where required.
  • Our Covid Ambassadors will also be on hand in the city centre to help control queues and encourage social distancing. We have recently extended this service until 21st June.

ADVICE AND SUPPORT FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES

The council's Covid Information Officers have been supporting businesses throughout the pandemic and will continue to support them over the coming months.

From shops and supermarkets to pubs and takeaways, the Covid Information Officers have been working with businesses in the district to make sure they are following Covid-safe procedures and are doing all they can to keep their customers and staff safe.

As part of this work, they have also provided advice and guidance on implementing hygiene and social distancing measures.

If you're a local business and you need help, contact the Covid Information Officers by emailing: healthprotection@chichester.gov.uk or calling: 01243 534602.
