We could soon see more parts of Wiltshire left to grow wild - to help improve wildlife habitats, especially for bees and other pollinators.

Wiltshire Council's launched its 'Wild about Wiltshire' scheme, changing its approach to grass cutting along verges and parklands it looks after.

More places will be left alone to become wildflower areas - which in turn will also reduce the need for pesticides and artificial pollination methods.

Cllr Dr Mark McClelland, Cabinet Member for Street Scene, said:

“In our business plan, we have committed to mitigate the climate challenges ahead, and Wild about Wiltshire helps us to do that.

“This campaign is all about improving biodiversity and the natural environment as much as we can in some areas, while still keeping some grassland areas cut regularly for both leisure and safety reasons.

“We know that some people want us to cut all verges and amenity areas, while others want us to leave them uncut to encourage wildlife – and Wild about Wiltshire helps us to find a balance."

We're being encouraged to suggest areas that would be suitable for 'rewilding' in Wiltshire.
