South Swindon's MP has called for Prime Minister Boris Johnson to resign from his position.

Sir Robert Buckland has told Greatest Hits Radio that, "following recent events," he thinks "it is right" for the PM to walk away from Number 10.

Mr Buckland had previously stayed loyal in supporting the Conservative Leader. He was part of Mr Johnson's Cabinet, earlier in his tenure, serving as Education Secretary.

Why has Sir Robert spoken-out?

The comments come after a whirlwind 24 hours, where several Tory cabinet members and ministers have stepped-down.

Their resignations followed Mr Johnson being forced into a humiliating apology over his handling of the Chris Pincher row, after it emerged he had forgotten about being told of previous allegations of “inappropriate” conduct.

Mr Pincher quit as deputy chief whip last week, amid claims that he groped two men at a private members’ club. Mr Johnson was told about the allegations against him in 2019.

The PM acknowledged that he should have sacked Mr Pincher three years ago when, during his time as a Foreign Office minister, the now-Tory leader was told about the claims against Mr Pincher.

Instead, Mr Johnson went on to appoint him to other government roles.
