Alex Cunningham would like to see a hard hitting advertising campaign to make sure people know about the latest ban.

From October it will be against the law to light up in a car with children in it.

It’s after three and a half years of battling in Parliament for the Stockton North MP.

He believes it will work, but would like to see an awareness campaign similar to when seatbelts were first made compulsory.

He told us; “This isn’t about punishing people, this is about protecting the health not just of children but of drivers and everyone else in the car as well.

“We need to do all we can to reduce the number of people smoking, particularly in regions like the North East where it can be higher than other parts of the country.”
