A large kitchen knife has been found, buried in a tree in Sutton Park.

It was discovered by one of our reporters who was walking through the woods this morning (Friday), when she spotted the handle of the eight inch blade partially covered in leaves.

The knife was found near to a spot which has been used to store smilestones, which are painted rocks which children and families re-hide to make people smile.

In addition to the knife, the area near to Town Gate was littered with broken glass and small metal canisters.

Police have now collected the blade.

All this week the West Midlands force is taking part in a national crack down on violent and knife crime, called Operation Sceptre.

As part of that officers are conducting weapon sweeps, knife arch operations and extra high visibility patrols.

During a sweep by officers earlier this week, a blade was found at the nearby Sutton Coldfield railway station.

The advice is to call 999 if you see ,or suspect someone has a knife.

If you find a knife, make a note of its location and report it immediately.
