The Mayor of the West Midlands is hosting a vaccine roundtable today (1 February) for local faith leaders and community groups.

The event's being done to give an insight into the Covid-19 vaccine and dispel any myths or fears.

Mayor Andy Street will be joined by a panel of experts, including:

  • Dr Justin Varney, DPH Birmingham City Council
  • Dr Rizwan Alidina, Practicing GP at Iridium Medical Centre, Birmingham and Solihull CCG
  • Dr Sarah Raistrick, Coventry and Rugby CCG Chair
  • Ash Banerjee, PHE Screening and Immunisation Lead in the West Midlands
  • Sheikh Nuru Mohammed, Imam at the Clifton Road Mosque
  • Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands, said:
  • “Vaccinations against Covid-19 have given us a clear route out of the misery of the past year, and it is brilliant to see so many people getting their jabs across the West Midlands.
  • "However some are very reluctant to take the vaccine for a number of reasons, and it is important we look to address that.
  • "So whether it’s dispelling some of the anti-vax fake news, or addressing some legitimate concerns around fertility and long-term pre-existing conditions, I have pulled together a panel of health experts from across the region to answer people’s questions and hopefully give them they reassurance they need to get protected against this awful virus.”
  • The event's open to anyone and is free to join.
