Wells RNLI has been called to help people cut off by the tide whilst fishing in the marshes between Wells and Stiffkey for a second time this week.

The Inshore Lifeboat was paged at 6.50pm yesterday (17 September) by Humber Coast Guard to rescue three persons who had gone into the marshes to fish with a rod and line but had mis-judged the height of the tide and became cut off by the incoming tide on high sand in the marsh system.

The Wells Inshore Lifeboat was already afloat and was on exercise at the time and diverted immediately to help. The lifeboat arrived on scene at 7:07 pm and working with the coastguard who were at the vantage point at Stiffkey, they were able to locate the casualties quickly.

At 7:22 pm the inshore lifeboat met with the persons cut off and ascertained they were all well and then started to transfer them to the safety of the shore at Stiffkey Greenway. With the three people all safe and supported by the local coastguard team, the inshore lifeboat was released and returned to the boathouse through the creek system.

The lifeboat was then sanitised, refuelled and ready again for service at 9.00 pm.
