Yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across the East of England

A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been declared across the East of England, with heavy showers and thundery spells expected throughout the afternoon.

The warning, which also covers parts of southern England the Midlands, runs from 11am this morning (May 9) until 10pm tonight.

Delays to public transport are possible, while drivers are being warned to expect difficult conditions on the roads.

There could be damage to some buildings through lightning, while localised flooding is also possible
