A vape retailer based in Norfolk is telling us that 2024 will see sellers "with the right intentions" prosper in the markets.

It's as figures from the Local Data Company suggest that 233 independent vape shops opened across last year - meaning there are now more than 3,500 in the UK.

"It would be ideal if nobody did either"

Barry Caine is from 'The Alchemist's Cupboard' in Norwich:

"People with the right intentions are going to prosper this year. I feel we're also going to see a lot of those who are in it for money fall away.

"So, for example, the corner shops offer no advice when selling disposable vapes, as it's purely a case of how many they can get in, in terms of sales.

"While vaping is 95% safer than smoking, it would be ideal if nobody did either. If you can implement something within a structure that protects people that, that would be ideal.

"We deal with quite a few local shops"

"We have added 60 or 70 shops in the last quarter and it seems to be more independent than the bigger ones, which we like to see.

"We deal with quite a few local shops, it's always a good month this as a lot of people want to give up smoking.

"Disposable vapes are going to undergo big change, this year. But I don't think that's going to be a big deal for those who are in the industry for the right reasons.

"There's going to be more regulation come out on nicotine content, along with possible increases in volume sizes to reduce waste and improve recycling, I believe."
