Events are taking place across the country, including West Yorkshire, to mark one year since the murder of George Floyd.

His death in Minneapolis when a police officer knelt on his neck for nine minutes, sparked global Black Lives Matter protests.

As a result, a city-wide review of statues in Leeds took place.

Last year, Alison Lowe led the review, which was announced the day after a statue of Queen Victoria in Woodhouse Moor was sprayed with graffiti.

"It feels like we make one step forward and ten steps backwards."

Reflecting on the past 12 months she said:

"You've got to talk to those people who are affected, and those people who know what the solutions are. Start that honest, open conversation, let's move forward together, because black and other minority ethnic people want to be part of the solution, we are seen as part of the problem.

"So talk to us, help us be part of the solution.

"It feels like we make one step forward and ten steps backwards. Even in the UK, 100 people have died during or following police contact in the last 10 years."
