West Yorkshire has once again been hit by heavy snow this morning, with the Met Office issuing an amber warning covering the whole region until 1pm today.

Hundreds of schools are closed, with most councils warnings most are likely to be shut across the region because of the adverse weather conditions.

Between 3cm and 8cm of snow is likely across the region, with 10cm to 15cm possible in areas above 200 metres.

Northern Powergrid have tweeted to say over 2600 properties in Wakefield are suffering a power outage due to the weather, with an unexpected powercut in Leeds LS14.

Across West Yorkshire, the police and local councils are warning people to only head out today if it's absolutely necessary and to wait until after 1pm when the roads are expected to be less treacherous.

Most major routes have been gritted, but there are still some issues on the main roads. There have been a number of issues on the M62 as teams work to recover vehicles from the snow.

Earlier, a lorry jackknifed on the motorway...

The A653 Dewsbury Road Southbound in Morley in Leeds between the Mcdonalds and M62 J28 is impassable because of snow, while in Ossett A638 Wakefield Road in both directions is blocked due to snow from B6128 Leeds Road to High Road (Dewsbury).

Bin collections in Bradford have been cancelled today, and the waste centres in Kirklees are closed.

We'll be keeping you updated through the morning.
