Leeds Tribute to Pakistan School Attack Victims

People in Leeds have gathered to mark this week's tragic events in Peshawar

A minute's silence has been held in Leeds to mourn the deaths of more than 140 people in Pakistan - most of them children. Crowds of people gathered uotside the Leeds Art Gallery to pay tribute to the victims of the attack on a school in Peshawar on Tuesday.

Members of the public were joined by local religious leaders and the Lord Mayor of Leeds in showing their support.

Gohar Almass Khan from the South Leeds Community Alliance comes from Pakistan and has family living in Peshawar. He said: "The message needs to be quite loud and clear that the world stands united against theese barbaric ciriminals.

"It was a crime not committed against one religion or race or city - it was a crime committed against humanity and I think we should all condemn it."

The Lady Mayoress of Leeds, Janet Harper JP, said: "As a mother I was deeply moved and shocked by the assination of young children. If I lost my children I wouldn't have wanted to go on living.

"I think we all felt we wanted the world to know that this is not acceptable."
