Bus passengers in West Yorkshire will pay no more than £2 per journey under new plans announced by the county's mayor.

Tracy Brabin said the new fare would make "a difference to people's lives" and help make travelling by bus more affordable.

Ms. Brabin will be working with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to negotiate the new fare with operators in the county.

She said it could see some people pay as little as £1.50 for their journeys, with an aim to make buses the first choice of travel.

The mayor also said she'd be investing £25 million into reconnecting isolated communities.

"I want people to see buses as the first choice for the journey they want to make" Ms Brabin said.

"The investments we’re making to reduce fares, develop new routes and introduce new zero emission buses mean they will be a cost-effective environmentally-friendly way to travel in West Yorkshire for years to come.”
