Shielding ends for people across West Yorkshire

People who are classed as clinically extremely vulnerable were told to start shielding in March 2020

Hundreds of people across West Yorkshire will be able to go outside for the first time in months today as shielding comes to an end.

In March 2020, people who are classed as clinically extremely vulnerable were told to stay indoors, as they are more at risk from coronavirus.

Now, as more people have had the vaccine, those who were shielding have more freedom.

Martin Parr from Leeds, suffers from chronic kidney disease and was placed in the clinically extremely vulnerable category in March 2020.

He said:

"It's been really difficult at times, you get fatigue, can be quite lonely sometimes, feel a bit despondent.

"Just to see friends and colleagues at work and actually being able to go outside and have more freedom, it's the face to face that I miss the most.

"I am concerned I might catch the virus again, even though I've had my first vaccine, it is in the back of your mind that If I was to catch it again, because when I did it was one of the worst times of my life."
