Two men hurt in Headingley stabbings

Police have arrested a 19 year old over the incidents on Saturday and Sunday

Two men are recovering after stabbings in Headingley overnight.

The first incident happened around 11pm on Saturday 31stMarch at Estcourt Avenue when a 24-year-old man was assaulted with a knife and had his mobile phone and wallet stolen.

Then at around 3am on Easter Sunday (1st April) police received a call from the ambulance service who reported a 22-year-old man had been stabbed at the junction of Ash Road, close to The Arc, as he was taking cash out of an ATM machine.

Both victims suffered serious injuries and were taken to Leeds General Infirmary for urgent medical treatment.

A 19-year-old male was arrested in connection with both of the incidents.

A large police cordon has been in place in the area, since the early hours of Sunday morning

Detective Inspector James Entwistle, of Leeds CID, said: "These were both violent attacks on members of the public who were enjoying an evening out.

"I would urge anyone who was out last night and has information about either of these incidents, saw anyone behaving suspiciously or recognise anyone in the area matching the above description to come forward and speak to the police as soon as possible.
