Fans and players have gathered at the DW stadium this afternoon to witness the unvieling of a giant new sign spelling out 'Belive'.

The club has also launched their new "Believe Fans Fund" which is designed to allow supporters more say over how the club spends its money.

It's hoped the funds will boost the club's ties with its fans and the money will help to improve first-team squad strength, increase academy investment and boost community projects

Chairman Talal Al Hammad, first-team manager Leam Richardson, players and life President and former owner Dave Whelan were all in attendance.

Fans will be able to sign up to a variety of monthly memberships where supporters are given the opportunity to choose the specific area they would like their monthly contribution to go towards.

"This is about being able to listen to the fans"

Speaking after the event Latics' CEO Mal Brannigan said:

"The Football Club represents the town. Fans already invest in the football club whether they buy from the retail store or their season tickets or they turn up on a matchday. This is about being able to listen to the fans to see where they want that income to go.

"It's going to take time to make sure that this football club is here for the future. The first thing is making sure that what we're doing is the right thing for the club, listening to the fans as well delivering on our words.

"There's still is an enormous amount of work to do but the key bit was getting that stability in there in the first place.

"We believe we've got that understanding of the identity of the club itself and we've been very open and we want to work with fans and continue to make this club great."
