The Director of Public Health St Helens has issued a rare tweet as she pleads with people to help slow and stop the spread of coronavirus.

It's as the seven day rate of new cases of Covid-19 shows the number of people testing positive continues to rise sharply.

The figures, for the week up to September 12th, cover tests carried out in laboratories and in the wider community and shows the number of new cases per 100,000 of the population.

Across the St Helens borough, the figures have shot up from 36.0 to 91.4.

That's lead to Sue Forster making the following plea to people on Twitter in a bid to halt the sharp rise in cases.
