Two people arrested, following death of a man in St Helens

The man in his 40's was found at the YMCA in the town

Detectives are investigating the unexplained death of a man in St Helens yesterday, Tuesday 9 April.

At around 4.30pm, officers were called to the YMCA on North Road by paramedics, who had attended to reports of a man in his 40s requiring medical assistance.

The man was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene and his next of kin have been notified and are being supported by officers.

Forensic and witness enquiries are ongoing.

A 52-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder and have been taken into custody to be questioned.

Detective Inspector Steve Byrom said: “We have arrested two people in connection with this incident, which is initially being treated as unexplained pending further enquiries.

“I would urge anyone who has any information to come forward at the earliest opportunity to assist this investigation. You can speak to us directly or anonymously via Crimestoppers.”
