League season kicks off for York City Knights

The Championship side host Toulouse Olympique this afternoon.

York City Knights play their first Championship match of the season this afternoon (4.30pm).

James Ford's side have already made progress in the Challenge Cup - beating Sheffield Eagles and London Broncos in the first and second rounds respectively.

They host Toulouse Olympique at the LNER Community Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the game, back row Chris Clarkson told Greatest Hits Radio York: "There's an exciting buzz around the changing rooms and the lads are raring to go.

"It's been a long time since our last league time, so we can't wait to get started. We've been working hard on the training pitch.

"We've had three games so far - the friendly against Hull and the two Challenge Cup victories - which have prepared us well. It's just a shame that the fans can't be here with us for the game, so we'll have to generate our own atmosphere.

"It's a beautiful new stadium for York and everyone is looking forward to playing in it. We've got to set the bar high, and as a team we're a very determined bunch.

"We're confident we can do well this year, and everyone is determined to do well this year. For the past couple of years Toulouse have been a difficult team to face in the Championship - they play expansive rugby, so we'll have to defend well.

"We can't wait to get the fans into the new stadium, as we know how passionate and dedicated they are to the team".

Will Jubb is likely to start again at hooker for the Knights with fellow hooker Kriss Brining likely to be absent through injury as he recovers from a hamstring issue which saw him exit the match against Sheffield Eagles a fortnight ago.

On the flanks, Ben Jones-Bishop could return to the team after missing out against London Broncos and could line up on the opposite flank to Kieran Dixon. After playing at full-back against his former club last weekend, the 28-year-old could return to the wing berth he occupied to great effect against Sheffield Eagles.
