Businesses in North Yorkshire say they are hoping this Christmas season will provide a much needed cash boost.

As the cost of living continues to rise many customers are being more cautious with their spending.

But Sue Cramer who runs Crown Jewellers on Commercial Street in Harrogate says many are banking on the festive season to carry them through: "A lot of retailers are concerned because with the economy with the cost of living crisis for a lot of people there is that extra consideration before making a purchase we are holding our breath, bated breath I think."

"It's a critical time because once we hit the months of January and February they can be really quiet so businesses rely on a decent Christmas trading result to basically tide them over the quieter months so it's vital."

"Shopping local, that pound that you are spending in a local will then go into the local economy it keeps it circulating around the local economy and also you get an unrivalled level of expertise and personal service, real quality and knowledge."
