North Yorkshire County Council is working to secure local permanent Covid-19 walk-in testing sites in Northallerton and Selby.

Along with one in Skipton, they would join the facilities already in place in Harrogate and Scarborough. They're due to open in the coming weeks.

The indoor facilities are available for people who don't have a vehicle, and are open 8am to 8pm, although appointments must be pre-booked.

Walk-in testing sites have a range of ten miles for booking purposes, but the council says it's working with the Government to widen that.

Appointments must be booked in advance to use the centres

Mobile drive-in test centres will continue to operate across North Yorkshire.

Richard Flinton, chair of the North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum, said: “These sites allows us to place our mobile testing units in other areas that need them the most, allowing more people the opportunity to book a test.

"With the bad weather starting and the temperatures dropping, the indoor sites will offer the staff on site a warm and dry place to undertake the testing.

“The new local testing sites are secure facilities that allow those without a vehicle to be tested quickly, giving them more choice and being more accessible to all residents.

"Collectively, we can make a difference and help to bring about considerably reduced rates of coronavirus infection."
