It's hoped 1,200 vaccines a day can be carried out at the new NHS vaccination centre in York.

The Askham Bar site has opened today (18th January), and staff there have been busy welcoming patients.

People in at risk groups have been receiving the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine at the hub.

CEO of Nimbuscare Madeline Ruff told Greatest Hits Radio York: "It's been really hectic, but we're delighted with the way it's gone this morning.

"Talking to patients coming through, they've all got really positive comments which is lovely to hear.

"Certainly for me it's the most valued thing I've ever done in my NHS career, and will make the most difference to patients".

The CEO also announced that vaccinations at home will be taking place in York from next week.
