York RLFC say they're working to investigate an incident following the Knights' game with Wakefield Trinity at the weekend.

Two men, aged 23 and 58, were arrested on suspicion of assault outside the LNER Stadium following Sunday's 1895 Cup tie, which finished 40-4 to the visitors.

In a statement on the club's website, the Knights said they were aware of an incident at Sunday's match involving 'a small minority of supporters'.

It added, "As a Club, York RLFC condemns all forms of violence and anti-social behaviour and this incident has no part in the matchday experience we wish to provide supporters with at the LNER Community Stadium.

"We will be working with the York Stadium Management Company and Wakefield Trinity to investigate the incident and will take any necessary steps to mitigate risks and issues in the future."

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "Police were called to an altercation outside the LNER Community Stadium in York at 4.40pm yesterday (Sunday 04 February 2024).

"A 23-year-old man and a 58-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of assault.

"Both men were later released on conditional bail."
