Further drop in Scarborough's Coronavirus rate
The borough's seven-day infection rate is now 223 per 100,000.
Scarborough’s coronavirus infection rate has fallen once again.
The borough’s seven day infection rate per 100,000 people in Scarborough now stands at 223, down from 235 yesterday. Seven days ago, it was 314.
However, the borough’s rate remains above pre-Christmas levels.
On Friday, Scarborough Council warned that despite the falling rates there were still high levels of the virus present, particularly in the north of the borough.
The borough authority said the rates in and around the villages of Danby, Castleton, Staithes and Glaisdale were of concern.
A spokesman for the council said:
“Although household mixing at Christmas and New Year and the knock on effect of that spread during the first two weeks of January is thought to be the main factor, there is also concern about the links the villages have – for essential shopping and work – with neighbouring Hambleton district and the Redcar and Cleveland area where there is evidence of high levels of the new variant of Covid-19.”
Mobile testing sites will be in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey this week, for people with coronavirus symptoms to get tested.

Scarborough’s walk-in coronavirus testing site at William Street Coach Park is offering testing, seven days a week, from 8am until 8pm.
Appointments for all sites must be booked in advance.

People who do not have access to the internet, or who have difficulty with the digital portals, can ring the 119 service to book.
