East Riding farmer wins national prize at industry awards
Paul Temple, from Wold Farm, is on a list of winners including TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson!
A farmer from the East Riding has been recognised at the industry's awards, winning the prize for Mixed Farmer of the Year.
Paul Temple, from Wold farm, was described by judges as 'an ambassador for the industry.'
Paul told Greatest Hits Radio the award was in recognition for "everybody who works on the farm, and the effort they put in."
He added: "We are looking very much towards our sustainability and how we manage the land and our livestock to minimise our footprint."
Paul admits, however, that their efforts towards sustainability are sometimes overshadowed by the perception that farming has a negative impact on the environment.
He said: "It is really frustrating because it becmes a distraction from actually solving problems and finding solutions.
"Farming is simply responding to the everyday demands of people's need for food and other products."
Other winners at the Farmers' Weekly Awards in London included TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson, awarded the Farming Champion prize: "It's certainly not an everyday experience for myself and many others!
"The farming industry's a big industry and we come in all shapes and sizes and we have a fantastic supply chain both that feeds into farmers and takes products away so it's brilliant to see us all in one room for one night."
