A family fun day is being organised by the emergency services in Filey later this year.

This year's event will take place on Sunday 21st August on Clarence Drive Playing Fields from 11am to 4pm. It is being spearheaded by Filey and Eastfield Police in collaboration with Filey Lions and Filey Playing Fields Association.

It will host a variety of displays and talks from ‘blue light’ emergency services, including the police, fire service, volunteer mountain rescue teams and Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

North Yorkshire Police says last year’s event was a huge success, attracting more than 2,000 visitors and a diverse range of emergency services all demonstrating their various roles and how they all work together.

Inspector Andy Short, of Filey and Eastfield Police, said: “This is an ideal opportunity to meet your emergency services in a non-emergency setting and find out more about the prevention, protection and response activities that we are involved with.

“This is our largest community engagement event of the year and an excellent opportunity to showcase our own experience as well as our work with multi-agency partners.

“The objective of the event is to share crime prevention, community reassurance and safety messages, whilst entertaining people and providing a family day out.”

On display will be an array of specialist vehicles from all the emergency services including Yorkshire Air Ambulance, RNLI, fire engines, police cars and police firearms and dogs’ units.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance, subject not to being called to an emergency, is scheduled to make a short visit around midday.

Inspector Andy Short added “The emergency services day is a fun; family friendly event and we are very much looking forward to attending.

“Hopefully there will be an even larger turnout than last year, and I would encourage people to come over and say hello."
