The MP for Filey says he WILL be voting for the new tiered restrictions which are due to come in tomorrow.

Kevin Hollinrake has said he supports more of a local system than a North Yorkshire-wide one.

Scarborough borough will be in Tier 2, along with the rest of the county.

Kevin Hollinrake said:

"No Conservative particularly wants to take people's freedoms away or make it more difficult for businesses to operate; but we have to look after the health service and there would be real dangers of the health services becoming swamped if we don't stop the spread of the virus.

"I have constantly championed in Parliament with the Prime Minister and others for a more localised approach. North Yorkshire is a huge county. We've got wide variations of infection rates across the county in places lots of other people don't go to.

"There are some sectors, particularly pubs and restaurants, that are really going to be badly hampered. So I would like to see us going back to a more district-based approach when we review the infection rates, review the tier system and which areas go into which tiers in 14 days.

"We're broadly around the national average in terms of the infection rates across North Yorkshire. Some areas are lower than the national average and some are higher. Most of the UK is in Tier 2 so I don't think at this point in time, it was a justification for being in Tier 1."

Kevin also says he expects the Prime Minister to announce a lump-sum payment for hospitality businesses which will be affected by the measures.
