The former leader of Scarborough Borough Council has been remembering the Queen's visit to Scarborough 12 years ago.

The Queen came in 2010 to officially open the Open Air Theatre.

Tom Fox said: "I had a degree of excitement but also that little bit nervousness, butterflies in the tummy, because it was a very, very special occasion and it was something that stayed with me and my wife Ros for all of time.

"It was exciting. She's a lady that just oozes charisma, personality and she's just so natural and puts you at ease straight away without saying a word. She's just amazing.

"We weren't even talking about putting a man on the moon, sending rockets to Mars and elsewhere and going to the deepest depths of the oceans and we're now doing that. We're getting more ambitious and she's seen all those changes.

"Myself and Ros were waiting there for them to arrive on the decking and then the Duke of Edinburgh was quite witty when he saw us because we were stood on our own at first. He came over and said 'thanks for keeping our seats warm.'"
