People in the East Riding who are experiencing financial problems due to the cost of living have been receiving help through Hull and East Yorkshire Citizen’s advice.

An event was held recently with services helping people face to face from the local council to MIND mental health charity.

Jayne Nendick, event organiser at Shores centre, said:

“There was an individual who was here earlier on who will be sleeping in a bed after being homeless. We’ve got him somewhere, I’m feeling quite emotional. I’m absolutely overjoyed that this joined up way of thinking is making these things work.

“There’s a number of people who’ve come through the doors, one person didn’t have a fridge and couldn’t afford to buy a new one so we helped them get that sorted.”

Kevin Davies volunteers for Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, he has been providing support there and said:

“It can be very difficult, I’ve been there myself and I’m still there in a way. It’s finding ways of managing what you’ve got, what you’re entitles to and finding new ways of dealing with situations, especially now with the heating and fuel crisis.”
