That's unless it's for specific exemptions

People are being warned not to travel in and out of Scarborough borough into Tier 3 areas - without a good reason.

It's after the whole of North Yorkshire was put into Tier 2 restrictions - which take effect next week - while further down the coast Bridlington will be in Tier 3.

Earlier in the year there were concerns that people from more infected places were coming to the borough.

Superintendent Mike Walker says police can take action if they need to;

"We've only issued one fixed penalty notice for one individual, who had travelled from a tier three area over to the Yorkshire coast.

"So there is enforcement powers in place, however people are still allowed to travel out of tier 3 areas, but really only for specific reasons.

"We are one of the highest issuing forces, in terms of fixed penalty notices since the start of this pandemic. I can ensure the public that we will continue to police communities proportionately."

People aren't allowed to travel into a tier 3 area unless it's for work, care or education purposes.
