New Year message from Scarborough and Whitby MP

Scarborough and Whitby's MP has been giving his New Year's message to Greatest Hits Radio listeners.

Robert Goodwill, who's now been knighted, says he doesn't expect more lockdowns in the immediate future.

He says the success of the vaccination programme and the mildness of Omicron are both factors.

Robert said:

"2021 has been a very difficult year for everybody. The second year when Covid has been the real issue affecting everybody, in their every day lives.

"It's been tough times for many businesses, particularly in the hospitality trade.

"Yes, there will be some choppy waters ahead, but I'm very confident that this year we will be able to put the Covid pandemic behind us and treat this like many other seasonal diseases that we have.

"Of course, the other problem we will face is economically paying for what has been a very expensive operation for the Chancellor".
