A Scarborough man has been jailed for six years after a robbery took place in the town.

The incident happened back in March at Manor Road Stores at around 5.15pm on 30th March 2022.

Wearing a hooded top with a surgical mask covering his face, he approached the shop worker while holding the knife and demanded that she opened the till.

He pushed her away and he grabbed cash before making off on foot.

28-year-old Nathan Stone, from Barrowcliff Road in Scarborough, admitted to robbery and carrying a knife.

He also has to pay a victim surcharge of £190 and has to forfeit the weapon.

Detective Constable Steve Monty, from Scarborough and Ryedale CID, led the investigation which resulted in Stone’s arrest and being put before the courts.

He said: “Nathan Stone caused severe upset and anguish to the shop worker when he confronted her with a knife during the robbery. He also created real fear in the wider Scarborough community while he was being tracked by the police.

“It is pleasing that he has been brought to justice and handed a substantial prison sentence as a consequence of his shameful actions.”
