Scarborough Survivors are set to help people with poor mental health at the town's hospital.

Staff members will be at the entrance of the A&E department to meet everyone as they come in.

They will be there on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Andrea Woolcott, Chief Officer at Scarborough Survivors, said:

"So anybody presenting at the A&E department who is need of emotional support through poor mental health or a physical illness, our staff will be on hand to help.

"Due to the pandemic when people have been presenting at the A&E, they've not been able to have anybody go in with them or sit with them, so that's quite a stressful thing; and I think more people are accessing mental health support via A&E, possibly because they don't know any other resources.

"They will be very easy to spot as they will be wearing the hospital scrubs but they will be in a different colour to the A&E staff. They will be wearing identity badges with support worker lanyards, but part of their role is to meet-and-greet people as they come into the department."
