The MP for Scarborough and Whitby says three local businesses shutting temporarily due to coronavirus is not something to be too concerned about.

Robert Goodwill has been reacting to what we told you earlier in the week about the closure Halifax bank in Scarborough town centre, the Hare and Hounds pub in Hawsker, and a Bothams shop in Whitby.

They have all closed in the last few days over fears of someone having Covid 19, while there have been six new cases in the borough over the last 9 days.

Robert said:

"We're talking about what? Three businesses close temporarily for cleaning, they'll be open again quite qickly; unlike the fact we had hundreds of businesses close for many weeks.

"It's an entirely diferent situation so if we do get an outbreak, we can take the measures promptly.

"I wouldn't want to draw too many conclusions from one week's worth of figures. Yes, if they went from 5 to 10 to 20 to 100 in the space of three or four weeks then it would be a real issue.

"But at the moment, we have a low number of cases and we now have testing available, which we didn't at the start of the campaign."
