Christmas is one of the times of the year when family gather and spend time together, so it's inevitable that board games will be on the agenda, with a massive 84% of us sitting down to play over the Christmas period.

Thanks to the latest research we can now reveal that of those who like to play board games at Christmas, a huge 31% of them chose Monopoly as their favourite game! Other classics such as Scrabble, Pictionary, Cluedo and Chess were also included in the top 10, with the newest game in the chart being Cards Against Humanity, which appears at number 7. This game was also the only card game to be included in the list.

Unusually it seems that the tech-savvy, younger generation are more inclined to play games, with more 18-24-year-olds playing than the older generations. Although the popularity of the games do change according to age, there is a clear favourite with young adults - Cards Against Humanity. Whilst this was much less popular with the older age groups.

Speaking about the research the PR Manager at Coral Casino, who provided the data, said, “Our research shows that, however popular high tech gifts have become at Christmas, the long standing tradition of sitting down with friends and family to a good board game after their Festive feast is alive and well."
