Former Home and Away actress Jessica Falkholt has had her life support machine turned off after she was involved in devastating car crash that killed her parents and sister on Boxing Day.

Jessica, who is best known for playing the role of Hope Morrison in the Australian soap, was airlifted to hospital alongside her 21-year-old sister Annabelle after the crash took place last month, but Annabelle sadly died from her injuries.

One day after the funerals of her sister and her parents, Jessica's family made the heartbreaking decision to turn off Jessica's life support, however the actress is still fighting for her life and remains in a critical condition.

Jessica was surrounded by her loved ones when her machine was turned off on Thursday morning, and they continue to remain by her bedside.

A large number of people attended St Mary's Catholic Church yesterday as Jessica's dad Lars, mum Vivian and sister Annabelle were laid to rest.

Moments after the horrific crash took place on Boxing Day, a passerby put his own life at risk to pull Jessica and her sister Annabelle out of the wreckage.

Speaking at the time, Darrin Collier said, "I was one of the first on the scene to this car accident, and to say it was horrific is a massive understatement. Three deceased and two critical.

"The injuries on the two girls will be something I won’t forget in a long time.

"I was thankful that I was able to help out in some way, with other motorists by getting the two girls out of the car before the car blew up in flames."

At the time of the incident, Jessica's Home and Away co-star Jackson Heywood wrote on Instagram, 'Can we please send all our support, love and prayers to Jess and her sister Annabelle, fighting for their lives after their crash on boxing day. Much love darlin. Im with ya. May u both make a full recovery. I cannot stress enough to please drive safe these holidays guys. Love ya.' sic

After the upsetting news this morning, a number of Jessica's fans have posted messages online, including the official Home and Away Twitter account. They wrote, 'Rest in peace, beautiful Jessica Falkholt'.

As well as Home and Away, Jessica has starred in a number of TV shows and movies, and was due to appear in a movie called Harmony, which is set for release later this year.
