Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have released a joint statement to announce the news they have split up following a one-year relationship.

The couple, who were last spotted together at the Vanity Fair Oscars party on Sunday, have revealed they taking 'respectful, loving space at this time'.

The full statement reads, "Before rumours or falsifications get out of hand we can confirm that Orlando, 40, and Katy, 32, are taking respectful, loving space at this time.”

The news comes as a shock to fans after everything seemed to be going smoothly in their relationship.

As well as spending time together backstage at the Oscars last weekend, Katy threw Orlando a lavish birthday party for his 40th back in January.

The pair first started dating last year and confirmed the rumours when they attended the star studded Golden Globes together in Los Angeles.

From then they seemed inseparable, travelling the world together, visiting sick children in fancy dress, and who can forget THAT naked photo of the actor on a paddle board during a romantic holiday to Italy.

Rumours even started to circulate that the pair were engaged back in November when Katy was spotted wearing a stunning diamond ring on her finger.

Despite the couple confirming their split, by the sounds of things they have remained very good friends.

Could we see a Katy and Orlando reunion in the future?
