One Direction star Louis Tomlinson has been released on £16,000 bail following his arrest after an altercation at LAX airport.

The 1D singer was allegedly involved in a scuffle between two female fans and a photographer but has reportedly told those close to him that he was 'protecting his girlfriend'.

Reports suggest that Louis was initially angry with a photographer at the airport and became involved in a tussle before tripping and falling to the ground with the photographer going with him. The man involved is said to have hit his head after the incident.

The situation got worse for Louis when two female fans apparently got involved and cornered his girlfriend Eleanor Calder. In shocking video footage released by RadarOnline, Louis can be seen running to Eleanor's rescue after the two fans approach her. Only after airport security intervened did Louis and Eleanor manage to get away.

One of the girls claimed she was thrown to the ground and has sustained an eye injury. Reports this morning are suggesting the girl, who hasn't been named, is considering pressing charges.

A spokesperson for Louis said he was unable to comment due to the legal proceedings. He is due to appear in court on March 29th.

Louis and Eleanor had rekindled their romance in December, following the death of Louis' mother Johannah Deakin. The couple had dated previously for three years before splitting in 2015.

Louis had recently thanked his fans for the BRIT award given to One Direction for British Artist Video of The Year for 'History'. Louis was unable to attend the prestigious awards show with Liam Payne representing the band on the night.
